Meet Our Client: Katrina Reid of Katrina Reid’’s Art

katrina reid's artSince 6th grade, 24-year-old Katrina Reid knew she wanted to be an art teacher. Now, not only is she teaching art to both elementary and high school students, but she’s also running a business selling her artwork, Katrina Reid’s Art, which has taken off over the past two years.

From magnets and mugs to calendars and prints, Reid said she sells all different types of artwork.

“A lot of my custom orders are portraits, landscapes, florals, pets, and some abstract pieces,” she said. “Most of them are in oils unless the customer asks for a different medium. It is my favorite medium to work with because it never dries, so I can rework areas for awhile.”

Among the many aspects of art she’s passionate about, including the colors, expression, brainstorming process and admiring the finished work, Reid said she especially enjoys witnessing the viewer’s reaction to her custom artwork.

“People really appreciate receiving artwork,” she said. “It might be the idea that someone put so much time and effort into something that means a lot to them. I have had the pleasure of being around customers when they receive the artwork I have done for them. I have seen people cry of joy and it really is something special to me.”

“Elementary school was when I fell in love with art, like most children, but I stuck with it and always knew I wanted to be an art teacher,” she said, adding that she then began taking private lessons at the suggestion of her elementary school art teacher.

Throughout high school and college, Reid said she continued enrolling in as many art classes and private lessons as possible, ultimately obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in 2011, and her Masters of Art Education degree, also from UNH, in 2012.

When she’s not creating artwork or attending art shows, Reid is busy working as an art teacher for Abrakadoodle, a mobile arts education program that sends her to different schools to teach the arts. Also employed as a sales associate at Converse, Reid said she creates artwork for the company whenever the opportunity arises.

In her free time, Reid said she enjoys spending time with friends, hiking, fishing, and going to the beach.

“I also play on two floor hockey teams and I am obsessed with watching hockey – the Boston Bruins to be specific,” she said, adding that with the absence of an NHL season, she has been especially busy painting this winter.

With the holidays quickly approaching, Reid said that custom artwork makes unique gift ideas.

“For the holidays, paintings are great gifts,” she said, adding that portraits and landscapes are especially popular at this time of year.
